This series will emphasize individual attention on vocal impediments and tuning. Constantly evolving and new repertoire, exercises and deepening practices.
Please join Michele Dante and Pinna Joseph on a journey into the power of sound and music that can transform the way you experience body, mind and spirit. Somatic Sounding is an integrative practice that offers an opportunity to understand how sound, voice and music can affect one’s state of consciousness, promote relaxation, and assist in the process of healing. Through experience in these classes, you will touch and express the essence of your being, learning a variety of vocal practices and techniques and utilizing music from many cultures that adds an amazing dimension for personal growth and well-being. No previous experience or musical ability required. These classes are accessible to all.

The powerhouse of our physical condition, the endocrine system, is endlessly taxed by the world around us. At an early age Rama Jyoti was exposed to mystics, great spiritual leaders, and natural healers whose experience was simultaneously traditional and ahead of its time. Through her personal experiences and the teachings of her parents and other great healers, Rama Jyoti has found ways to stimulate and renew this complex system that governs much of our physical being. She will share stories from her vast background, and apply her knowledge to asana for rejuvenating the endocrine glands.
5-8pm – A Breath-based Practice
While breathing is fundamental to yogic practices and life functions, daily stress, chronic breathing maladies and environmental pollutants affect our ability to fully receive the benefits of the breath. How we breathe can deepen our yoga practice, alleviate problems and provide a more vital lifestyle. Rama Jyoti will introduce her signature approach to using the breath as a way to open the body to enhance asana, deepen spiritual practices and enliven day-to-day activities.

12:30-3:30pm: Meditation Within Asana: Integration and Practice based on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras
Meditation is an essential practice for clarity of mind and maintaining one’s balance admist the multitude of life’s challenges. Rama Jyoti offers a unique integration of finding the Meditation “seat” in the midst of all Asanas The emphasis is upon finding the stillness within the physical practice which can be carried into life’s actions and interactions Her approach to Asana, pranayama, and concentration is for those wishing to develop a meditation practice or to augment an existing one.
Rama Jyoti Vernon began her interest in metaphysics and mysticism as a child, with parents who were pioneers in holistic health. Ultimately, she became one of America’s first Yoga teachers, and was instrumental in bringing many great teachers from India to the U.S., co-founding the Yoga Journal and developing organizations such as Unity in Yoga, to unite all lineages of Yoga. As a housewife, mother and Yoga teacher, Rama found herself applying Yoga philosophy in a whole new arena, international peacemaking. During the 1980s she made dozens of trips to the U.S.S.R, and founded the Center for International Dialogue, based on the idea that people can join together to initiate solutions for political, economic, ecological, humanitarian and cultural conflicts. In 1995, Rama Jyoti was an NGO delegate to the Fourth UN Conference on Women held in Beijing, China, where her focus was on future work with the Women of Africa. Educated at the California Institute of Integral Studies, Rama Jyoti, is a writer, educator, lecturer in Asian philosophy and East-West Psychologywhich has inspired her unique approach to Conflict Resolution. She has co-designed a two-year Conflict Resolution and Peace Team training program.Rama Jyoti is a mother of five and grandmother. Her warm manner and the way she shares personal anecdotes about her life, make students feel they know and like her as a friend. Her legacy of Asana training, combined with deep integration of the Yoga Sutras, is carried on by her longtime students.

The science of yoga is filled with Sanskrit vocabulary. The class will read transliterated text (English letters with diacritical markings) of the alphabet, asana names and yoga terms.

Focusing our attention in a single place centers our heart-mind, ending outer sensory distractions and moving us deep into our inner light of awareness. The final four limbs cultivate a sattvic heart-mind and a higher state of consciousness.
Nicolai Bachman has been teaching Sanskrit, chanting, yoga philosophy, Ayurveda, and other related topics since 1994. He has a knack for synthesizing and organizing complex topics into simple and understandable presentations. His education combines informal, traditional study with the academic rigor of university classes. Nicolai studied extensively at the American Sanskrit Institute, the Ayurvedic Institute, the American Institute of Vedic Studies and the Vedic Chant Center. He holds an M.A. in Eastern Philosophy, an M.S. in Nutrition, and is RYT500 certified. His ongoing studies expand upon and inform all future classes. Nicolai has authored several Sanskrit book/CD learning tools including 108 Sanskrit Flash Cards, The Language of Yoga, The Language of Ayurveda, and Vedic Astrological Terminology, as well as The Yoga Sutras: An Essential Guide to the Heart of Yoga Philosophy (Sounds True, March 2010).

4/10: Letting Go of Stress and Trauma: Psoas Release and Freedom with David Berceli (Tempe Studio)

This is an amazingly effective and very popular workshop on the bio-mechanics of stress release with experiential exercises designed to facilitate the surrender of deeply held stress patterns in the body. David Berceli is an international expert in the areas of trauma intervention and conflict resolution. He is also the energetic and creative founder and CEO of Trauma Recovery Assessment & Prevention Services (TRAPS 1998). The goal of TRAPS is to provide specialized trauma recovery assistance to international and local organizations whose employees are living and working in trauma inducing environments. David is an international expert in the areas of trauma intervention and conflict resolution. For the past 23 years he has lived and worked in seven countries providing trauma relief workshops and designing recovery programs for international organizations around the world. Dave has lived and worked extensively in Israel/Palestine, Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Yemen, Egypt, China and Lebanon. More recently, David has been addressing the psychological and cultural trauma of the present day financial conditions and it’s effect . This type of psychological disaster is producing severe stress and overwhelming anxiety among millions of people and is affecting the world as much as terrorism or any major natural disaster.
Join David as he teaches how to address trauma utilizing core somatic releasing techniques integrating the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. The relationship between mind and body will be explored experientially to clear chronic stress patterns in the body, facilitate the release of fear and negative impressions stored in the psoas muscle and create a greater awareness of spirit. We will also explore the effects of stress on a mental, emotional and physical level and how this impacts our perception of spiritual identity.
